Dal Tadka
This is a mouth watering dish served sizzling hot with rice, roti aur naan. Being a very common North Indian recipe which is normally eaten on regular basis, the dal tadka has taken the world by culinary storm. Moreover, this dish is on the menu of every Indian restaurant and is a popular order with a lot of guests.
Ingredients
For pressure cooking :
1/2 cup toor dal
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
1 cup water
For the gravy :
2 tbsp oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
1 onion, finely chopped
1 tomato, finely chopped
Salt to taste
1 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp garam masala
1 green chilli, chopped
1/2 cup dal water
1/2 tsp kasoori methi
For the tadka:
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp cumin Seeds
1 tsp garlic, chopped
2 dry whole red chillies
1/2 tsp ginger, chopped
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
Fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
Recipe
- Soak chana dal in a bowl for 2 hours. Similarly, soak toor dal in a different bowl. After 2 hours, put both the dal in pressure cooker with salt, turmeric powder and required water. Pressure cook for about 5-8 minutes or till completely cooked.
- For gravy, heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds to crackle, followed by ginger garlic paste. Add the chopped onions and cook until golden pink. Add tomatoes, salt, coriander powder, garam masala, and green chilli and cook till tender. Add dal and kasoori methi to the mixture. Boil on sim flame.
- For tadka, add cumin seeds to crackle in a pan. Add garlic, whole red chillies, and ginger, followed by red chilli powder. Pour the tadka over the cooked dal gravy. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
